In the vibrant and diverse city of Dallas, Texas, a quiet yet powerful cultural revolution is taking shape. At its heart is Ana Parada, a dynamic and determined Colombian woman whose passion for her Latin American heritage has sparked a movement reshaping the city's cultural landscape. By her side is Gabe Bautista, her business partner and director of operations. His diverse expertise and deep Colombian roots have been instrumental in bringing this vision to life.

Ana Parada's story begins in the multicultural city of Bogotá, Colombia, known for its rich tapestry of cultures and history. Growing up in a town often called the "Metropolis of America," Ana was immersed in a world where different cultures coexisted and thrived. Her love for Colombia's diverse folklore and traditions sparked an early fascination with cultural expression, a passion she carried with her when she moved to Dallas in 2004.

Upon arriving in Dallas, Ana quickly noticed a gap in the city's Latino community. While events existed, there was no cohesive platform to celebrate and share the diverse cultural backgrounds of Latinos, nor a unified space that could educate and engage the wider community. This realization inspired Ana to create Uptown Latino, an entertainment company dedicated to promoting Latino culture through vibrant events and celebrations. Since 2011, Uptown Latino has been at the forefront of some of the most significant Latino events in Dallas, bringing people together to celebrate their heritage.

From Events to a Cultural Foundation

Motivated by her profound appreciation for Latin arts, traditions, and history, Ana expanded her efforts by organizing larger events that showcased the beauty and richness of Latin American culture. One of her most notable achievements was founding the Dallas Colombian Festival, the largest Colombian event in North Texas. The festival was not just a celebration; it was a statement—a declaration of the importance of preserving and promoting Latin culture in a city as diverse as Dallas.

However, Ana’s vision extended beyond individual events. She aimed to create a lasting impact—something that would continue to educate and inspire future generations. In 2019, this vision materialized as the Representa Foundation. The Foundation's mission is clear and powerful: to promote, disseminate, and inculcate the rich Latin American culture to the next generation. Under Ana's leadership, the Representa Foundation has become a pillar of cultural celebration and education, enriching the lives of countless individuals across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

The journey to establish the Representa Foundation was not without its challenges. Ana faced numerous obstacles, from securing funding to gaining community support. However, her resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to her mission allowed her to overcome these hurdles. Through meaningful partnerships, mobilizing resources, and inspiring communities, Ana has ensured that the Foundation continues to thrive and grow.

The impact of the Representa Foundation extends far beyond the local community in Texas. As the first Colombian foundation in DFW to offer completely free folk dance classes, the Foundation has over 250 members and has presented its cultural programs at prestigious events such as the Latino Cultural Center, the Latinidad Festival, and even the Hispanic Heritage Parade in New York City.

The Role of Gabe Bautista: A Partner in Cultural Transformation

Equally vital have been the contributions of Gabe Bautista, whose role as business partner and director of operations has been indispensable. Born and raised in Bogotá during a turbulent period of violence and conflict, Gabe's early experiences shaped his passion for cultural preservation and education.

Gabe's diverse background as a classically trained composer, educator, consultant, and entrepreneur has brought a unique perspective to the Foundation. His expertise in digital transformation, marketing, and leadership has helped the Foundation expand its reach and impact, ensuring that the rich cultural heritage of Latin America is celebrated not just in Dallas but beyond.

Under the leadership of Ana Parada and Gabe Bautista, the Representa Foundation is changing the cultural ecosystem of Dallas. By bringing folkloric traditions from different parts of Latin America to the forefront, they are opening opportunities for artists and cultural groups to be seen and recognized. Their work is not only a celebration of the past but also an inspiration for future generations to embrace their heritage and build a more inclusive and culturally enriched future.

Ana and Gabe’s journey is a testament to the power of passion, resilience, and collaboration in effecting meaningful change. Through the Representa Foundation, they continue to make history, inspiring others to work hard for their dreams in the arts and culture and ensuring that the vibrant traditions of Latin America are celebrated and preserved for generations to come.
