A new chapter in artistic storytelling is unfolding in the heart of the Caribbean, where sun-dappled shores meet the vibrant pulse of culture. Royal Caribbean International has announced the return of its Artist Discovery Program, an initiative that bridges the region's rich heritage with the world of cruising. As the Star of the Seas prepares to debut in August 2025, this groundbreaking program offers artists a rare opportunity to etch their stories into the fabric of the world’s next vacation icon.

This initiative is more than an artistic commission—it’s a celebration of the people, beauty, and culture that define the Caribbean. With a global audience on deck, the program provides an unparalleled platform for local creators to showcase their talent while connecting millions to the spirit of the region.

A Voyage of Creativity

The Artist Discovery Program invites painters, muralists, and visionaries across the Caribbean to contribute to the Star of the Seas’ curated art collection. Following the success of its inaugural launch on Icon of the Seas in 2023, this program sets the stage for an encore performance, promising bold, large-scale works that will adorn some of the ship’s most prominent spaces.

Jay Schneider, Royal Caribbean’s Chief Product Innovation Officer, captures the essence of the program:

“Our goal is to connect our guests to the enduring beauty and creativity of the Caribbean. This immersive program is a pathway to celebrating and exploring local culture while onboard the next Icon of vacations—Star of the Seas.”

Submissions are open until February 15, inviting artists to submit five samples of their previous work, an artist statement, and a CV. The program’s winners will receive grants ranging from $20,000 to over $100,000 to bring their visions to life, marking a life-changing moment for creatives in the region.

Art as an Invitation to the Caribbean

The artwork isn’t just decoration; it’s a call to experience the Caribbean in all dimensions. From large-scale murals in the ship’s Royal Promenade—a hub that mirrors the region’s vibrant energy—to pieces in the serene Suite Sundeck Lobby, every creation will serve as an invitation for guests to immerse themselves in Caribbean culture.

Artists like Angelika Wallace-Whitfield (Bahamas), Phillipe Dodard (Haiti), and Jason Hospedales (Trinidad & Tobago) have already paved the way with their breathtaking works aboard the Icon of the Seas. These murals, born from the unique perspectives of their creators, have captivated millions, becoming landmarks of the ship itself. The Star of the Seas will take this legacy even further, creating new touchpoints for connection and discovery.

The Caribbean’s Heartbeat at Sea

This initiative also speaks to the larger mission of Royal Caribbean International: to redefine travel through cultural celebration. The Star of the Seas—with its eight neighborhoods, record-breaking water slides, and luxe amenities—offers more than an escape. It’s a dynamic canvas where culture and adventure meet. From the lively Lincoln Park Supper Club to the tranquil retreats of Chill Island, the ship embodies the best of vacationing while honoring its Caribbean roots.

Every itinerary includes stops at breathtaking destinations like Cozumel, St. Maarten, and Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay. Yet, the onboard art ensures that the soul of the Caribbean travels with guests, making every voyage a transformative experience.

As the Star of the Seas nears its debut, the return of the Artist Discovery Program is a testament to Royal Caribbean’scommitment to nurturing and celebrating talent. This effort not only enhances the cruising experience but also gives a stage to the brilliant minds of the Caribbean, ensuring their voices resonate far beyond their shores.

For budding artists across the region, the call is clear: This is your moment to capture the Caribbean’s essence and share it with the world. Submissions are open now through February 15. Details can be found on Royal Caribbean’s website.

So, as the Star of the Seas readies to set sail, it carries with it not just passengers but the stories, dreams, and creativity of the Caribbean—etched into its heart by the artists who call it home.
